Q: DO I HAVE TO WEAR "YOGA PANTS" TO DO YOGA?

Frequently Asked Questions
We remember what it's like to be a beginner in yoga. Trying something new can be hard sometimes!

Always know that you are not alone and we are here to help you feel confident in your practice. Below are the top six questions and answers from us at YOGA IN SESSION.
1
Q: Do I have to wear "yoga pants" to do yoga?
A: Absolutely not! Although "yoga pants" can be comfortable for some people, the only tip we have is to wear clothing that covers what needs covered and that you can move in. No one wants a case of ripped pants!
2
Q: What do I need to bring to yoga class (besides myself)?
A: This answer depends largely on the type of yoga class you are joining. Nevertheless, here are some general tips:
We recommend that students have some drinking water handy. Most classes are at least 60 minutes in length and you may work up a sweat. Some students may want to bring a small towel which can be used for both perspiration and as a prop to make poses more comfortable on knees, etc.
If you have a yoga mat, you can bring it along. Know that many classes offer a limited number of mats, blocks, and straps for use (sometimes for a small fee). If you don't own a yoga mat yet, this may be a good option to try out some different types of mats before purchasing one.
And friends are always nice to bring along, too! They can make sure you don't take yourself too seriously!

Q: Wait a minute- did you say that I may sweat in a yoga class?
A: Much to many people's surprise, it is very possible that you may break a sweat during yoga. However, there are lots of different types of yoga classes. If you're not looking for a workout, there are even some yoga classes that focus on relaxation (some may be called Restorative Yoga or Yoga Nidra).

Q: I have never tried yoga with a group of people. Will they be watching me?
Sincerely,
Awkward Yogi
A: Dear Awkward Yogi,
We encourage students to focus on themselves during classes. Yes, your neighbors will see you, but under the guidance of a mindful teacher, you will feel safe and supported within a community.
5
Q: I'm not so sure that I can even touch my toes. Is yoga really right for me?
A: Ohhh, we have some good news for you! Yoga is designed to meet you where you are right now, even if that means not touching your toes!
There are many ways that your body can benefit from what we call the "function" of yoga poses. It may be as simple as slightly bending your knees to achieve the function of a pose.

And there is more good news! With practice, yoga can help increase your flexibility and range of motion.
6
Q: What if I try a class and I don't like it?
A: Because yoga classes vary, we would recommend that you try a few different types of classes with different teachers when available. A mindful teacher will be completely understanding and supportive as you explore what yoga has to offer.
